Crystal Lawburgh – Family Farm

This photo is of my dad (Roy Meyer of Meyer Farms out of St. Mary’s area in Batesville, IN) and my daughter (Charlotte).  Papaw and his buddy “Charlie” (as he calls her) are pretty inseparable.  She loves doing anything and everything with her Papaw.  I loved everything about this moment…the way he is carrying her in one hand and feed in the other…the way his dog is at his feet…the way the clouds looked this day.  This is a pretty regular occurrence around home.  Dad loves taking his grandchildren (and back when I was young, my sisters and me) along with him to do pretty much anything on the farm.  My dad and his brother, John Meyer, raise beef cattle and hogs on their farm.  This is the same farm they were raised on that my Grandpa farmed.  Being raised on a farm has had a huge impact on me and my life: watching my dad do something he loves so much and be an entrepreneur motivated me to follow my dreams.  I have so much respect for my father, uncle, and all the other farmers because it is such a thankless job that requires hours upon hours of work and dedication, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.  I love seeing how happy farming makes my dad and I love watching my children grow up seeing that same passion and work ethic.
